Euro Tagebuch/la Rivista

Before

This past month my family and I took a little vacation in Europe. We started off the trip in Dusseldorf, Germany, then travelled through Munich, Innsbruck (Austria), Bolzano (Italy) and finally spent our last few days in Venice. Every night before bed, I took some time to write down in my journal the happenings of the day, and reflected on some of the highlights. I tried journaling when I was younger, but that literally lasted a few days, and it has never struck me to try it again, until this trip. I thought it would be good to keep a better record of what we did on the trip as with other holidays I've gone on, I forget the majority of what we did. I will forever remember how I felt on all of my trips though-  enriched and content. Below is a detailed list of supplies needed to document your adventures and a few excerpts from my own. Each journal entry started with a point form version of what we did and where we ate, followed by my thoughts on the day and my favourite things. I did not share those thoughts here, only the point form version, but I am happy to share it with anyone who would like to read it. I apologize for the messy writing and many many spelling errors, but it's authentic!

I have just a few tips to share for anyone looking to keep a journal of your adventures.

1. Make sure you bring a pen- I actually forgot one and had to steal one from my Dad for the entire trip haha.

2. If space is an issue, a small pocket journal is just as good- and unless you are gone for 6 months at a time, there is plenty of room in those to keep track of everything.

3. I found that the best time for me to journal was after dinner before bed. The happenings of the day are still fairly fresh in my mind, and with Kit in bed already it was the most peaceful time to myself I had. I found if I missed a day of writing, it was harder to do the next day, as more and more things were already flooding my mind.

4. I liked my point form version of the day to begin followed by some more in depth descriptions. I am a point form kind of person- so that was easy, and then I challenged myself with the detailed writing. I'll admit even when I tried my entries are not epically long and some may think not enough, but hey I tried!

5. Lastly, write about whatever interested you that day- I found some days I was more interested in reflecting on how a place or activity made me feel, and others more inclined to just write what I ate or some history about where we were. It changed daily, and so did my writing. Just enjoy!
