Dirt

July 6, 2013 Chris and I finally got married. It was one heck of a celebration, it was hot, it was full of love and fun. Most importantly, it was our declaration of loyalty and respect, and our like and love for each other. The bringing together of two people, who came from another two people who came from another two people.... as the saying goes " All because two people fell in love." We wanted to do something to show the acknowledgment of this, of where we came from. So instead of the common pouring of different colours of sand into a vase, we bought a tree, gathered earth from all of our parents and grandparents yards, and ceremonially poorer each jar of earth into the pot with the tree to signify our families joining and bringing some of each of these places with us wherever we ended up. Now fast forward 6 years- we have been in our "forever home" for almost 3 years, and we finally planted this g*d damn tree! Don't ask us what took us so long, there is never an answer other than other things seemed more important to do. We weren't going anywhere, and the dirt remained in a bucket in our garage. So a few weeks ago, leading up to our 6th wedding anniversary, we found a spot and planted our wedding tree, and ceremonially poured all 6 jars of dirt. The wedding is over, the honeymoon is over, but we still found a way to remember to plant this tree. And as silly as it may seem, it made me feel like we were still important both as a unit and to each other. And now I get to water it everyday- and hopefully it reminds me to keep "watering" our relationship ( I had to sorry! haha).
