Book Dedication
My Grandpa is a "birder" and general nature enthusiast. If you ever needed to know what an animal was you just asked him, especially if it was a bird. To this day, after losing his short term memory to a stroke a few years ago, this nature knowledge is intact and brings a brightness to his conversation. Back in 1981 he actually wrote a book called "Birds of Oak Hammock Marsh Wildlife Management " and there was an article written about him in the Ducks Unlimited Conservator: Winter 1982 Volume 3 No.1 highlighting his book and his contribution to their community.
I was lucky enough to get a copy of his book, specifically the copy my Grandpa gave to my Grandma. My grandparents, to me, had a partnership to aspire to. Even after over 50 years of marriage, you could just see how much they loved each other. I found their banter and little squabbles to be so cute, and as you can tell by the personal note inside this book cover, my Grandpa was completely smitten and so in love with his "wifey". I might not be very interested in birding, but this item will always sit on our bookshelf as a reminder of my Grandpa's passion for birds, and of course, my Grandma.
Please take a second to check out the links I have provided below. A visit to Oak Hammock Marsh is always a great way to spend a day and Ducks Unlimited is a great company providing support for local wetlands. One fundraiser they have each year is the Duck and Run which is held at Oak Hammock Marsh in August, so think about coming out to run or walk 2-10 kms through the beautiful scenery! You may bump into my Mom or I too!
